Ask Disney Adulting: How do you get into Club 33 at Disneyland?

TL;DR – There are only three ways; 1) Be a Club 33 Member/Spouse, 2) Know a Club 33 Member who will bring you along or make a reservation for you, or 3) Have access to a business Club 33 Membership.

What is Club 33?

Opened in 1967, Club 33 is one of the most VIP experiences at Disneyland and is open exclusively to only its members and their guests. Developed by Walt Disney himself to be an elegant escape from the bustle and noise of the park and designed to entertain business associates and investors, it’s been patronized over the decades by presidents, kings, luminaries, and celebrities from around the world.

Where is Club 33 located?

Club 33 is discretely located above Disneyland’s Café Orleans and The French Market restaurants in New Orleans Square. It holds the title for the most exclusive five-star restaurants in the world and is accessible by members and their guests through a beautiful door with the engraved “33” glass pane above it with two gas lamps flickering away at each side. (Note: The previous door next to The Blue Bayou remains in place, but is no longer utilized after the 2014 update to Club 33.)

How do you get into Club 33 at Disneyland?

Club 33 is a members-only club with a very long waiting list, exuberant fees, and strict membership restrictions. In fact, the rules even forbid members from auctioning off membership passes to charities and a man actually sued Disney for terminating his membership in such a case.

It’s because of this exclusivity that it’s not common for the regular Disney guest to attend the club without falling into one of the following categories:

    • Be a Member/Spouse

Individual memberships are also known as Platinum Memberships and are maintained by a single Charter Member who is also responsible for the payments of annual fees. The Platinum Membership type includes up to three additional VIP Cardholders. VIP Cardholders are part of the Individual Membership to which they belong but are not considered a “Member” and do not have annual dues.

    • Have Access to a Business Membership

Business Membership types include Corporate, Limited Corporate, and Executive. Each business membership type is maintained by one Charter Member but is owned by the Charter Member’s company and not the individual. All Business Membership types have different tiers of Associate and Affiliate members with differing applicable benefits to those members.

    • Know a Generous Member

Individual membership or Business membership holders may make reservations for friends and associates to dine at the club in Le Grand Salon without requiring them to be present. Access to Le Salon Nouveau, however, is strictly members-only and requires any guests to be accompanied by the member.

Okay, so say you were able to get a reservation to Club 33. How do you physically get inside? To the left of the door is a panel with the logo doorbell and a small speaker. If you are within five minutes (no more than) of your reservation, you can ring the doorbell and Club 33 staff will speak through it to confirm your reservation and party name. Shortly after the door will be opened and you’ll enter a small lobby and be ushered out into the beautiful Court of Angels for refreshments while you wait for your table to be set up.

    How much is a Membership?

While the investment to become a Club 33 member isn’t posted publicly, initiation fees are rumored to run $30,000-40,000 with annual dues around $10,000-20,000 per person.

How do you get a Membership?

Hold on before you get your checkbook ready, there’s a waiting list that has ranged from 500 to 800 people over the years.

Why is Club 33 so exclusive?

Even the top celebrity cannot waltz up to the door and gain access to unannounced. Anyone who desires access to the club must either have a membership themselves or have an approved reservation made in advance by a member. Walt did this intentionally as he desired an exclusive place in the park where corporate sponsors and celebrities could dine in VIP style and he could entertain guests worthy of the name Disney. Sadly, Walt passed away before he ever saw the club open.

The ambiance is off the charts and includes amazing paintings, photos and memorabilia dotted throughout the club, including Lillian Disney‘s harpsichord (played by both Paul McCartney and Elton John), hand-painted original artwork from Disney movies like Fantasia, a vintage telephone booth from The Happiest Millionaire starring Fred MacMurray, and a table from Mary Poppins. If you’re a Disney geek, your head will explode.
