15 Disney Things We’re Looking Forward to in 2018
We made it – 2018! There’s a lot to be excited about this year for Disney fans with an amazing year planned launching some exciting new attractions at Disney Parks, a full boat of new Disney films coming to theatres including some long-awaited sequels, new entertainment venues, and celebrations new and extended.
There’s far too much planned this year that we can hardly contain ourselves, so here’s just a highlight reel of the top 15 Disney things we’re looking forward to in 2018:
1. Toy Story Land opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Who can’t wait to join Woody, Buzz and the rest of the Toy Story gang for an adventure in the new Toy Story themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Me, Me, Me! Designed to look just like stepping into a Pixar film, you’ll be shrunk down to the size of a toy and join your favorite characters for a romp in Andy’s backyard. Did we mention the new rides? Oh yes, there will be new rides with the Alien Swirling Saucers and Slinky Dog Dash as well as some new eats served up quick-service style at Woody’s Lunch Box. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m ready to go “To Infinity and Beyond!”
Opening: Summer 2018
2. Pixar Pier at Disney’s California Adventure
Okay, as sad as it is to say goodbye to California Screamin’ after January 8th, we are still excited to see developments of four new themed neighborhoods taking place at Disney’s California Adventure. These four new neighborhoods will feature Pixar favorites – The Incredibles, Toy Story, Inside Out and a fourth neighborhood celebrating all Pixar stories. Don’t fret thrill seekers, while California Screamin’ is being retired you’ll get an excited rethemed attraction featuring The Incredibles in the Incredicoaster. In fact, the entire pier is transforming into an experience that any Pixar fan will rejoice over.
Opening: Summer 2018
3. Pixar Fest at Disney’s California Adventure
Three in a row for Pixar!? Yes, 2018 is shaping up to be “The Year of Pixar,” at Disney Parks and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Anyone who loves Pixar will be excited about this one, a festival to celebrate everything you’ve ever loved about Pixar at Disney’s California Adventure featuring a new firework show, “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular,” the return of “Paint the Night” parade, new “Pixar Play Parade” making it’s way with added characters from “UP” and “Inside Out,” new character meet and greets across the park and plenty of new Pixar merchandise. All I have to say is, “Shut up and take my money.”

4. Avengers: Infinity War
Okay, I can’t even handle myself over this one. Seriously. All your favorite Marvel characters on screen together, in one movie – yes, shut the front door! There’s nothing I can say that will explain how amazing this movie is going to be, so watch the trailer (more than once) and go see the movie!

5. The Edison at Disney Springs
Okay, so I know this one opened up technically in 2017 but with doors opening for the first time just on New Year’s Eve there is an entire year ahead. If you haven’t been to the original location in Los Angeles, The Edison is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences for anyone who loves the “industrial gothic” feeling of the 1920’s. There’s already a steady line-up of entertainment booked for 2018 that includes unique acts like aerialists, live cabaret, contortionists and DJs. Seriously guys, the location is Los Angeles is my FAVORITE, so I have some high hopes that the one in Disney Springs will be just as incredible.
Opened: New Year’s Eve 2017

7. Disney Revenue & Earnings
Let’s be honest, Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) has been trading flat for all of 2016 and experienced some real struggles in 2017. However with the factors that caused the years past results out of the way and big releases like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” still pulling in revenue and the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” yet to hit theatres we’ll see a larger lift in Disney values. There’s also the looming ESPN streaming service and the 21st Century Fox acquisition that’s should continue to build a profitable 2018 for Disney shareholders.
8. Frozen on Broadway
Whether you are a “Frozen” fan or not, there no doubting the power of this story. Disney is following their success of other movie-to-Broadway features, such as “Aladdin” and “The Lion King,” and is finally taking “Frozen” to stage production. 9. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Celebrates 20 Years
Party animals get ready, Disney’s Animal Kingdom celebrates 20 years! Opened on April 22, 1998, this park has been delighting animal lovers and thrill seekers alike with growth over the last couple of years that has turned this park into the favorite of many visiting Walt Disney World. While Disney has yet to release any official anniversary celebration plans, we can only assume that there will be more fanfare than 2013’s 15th celebration. What we do know, is that there are new things coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this year with a new show featuring your favorite characters from “UP.” I don’t know about you, but my cheetah print Mickey ears are ready for some fun!

This movie promises plenty of action and some new villains and heroes to meet from the Marvel universe on the big screen.

15. Mary Poppins Returns
Even the biggest Julie Andrews fan can’t deny that Emily Blunt looks stunning in the role of Mary Poppins in this designed-as-a-sequel story where Mary returns to the Banks family after Michael and Jane are all grown up. We can’t wait to see what this picture brings in the form of songs, excitement and the unexpected. Oh, and Dick Van Dyke will be making an appearance in the film as well.
