Official Disney Face Covering Requirements
Disney has taken guidance from health authorities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and government agencies and released an enhanced healthy and safety measures designed to protect both guests and the magic. Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Guests are required to bring their own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:
- Be made with at least two layers of breathable material.
- Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin.
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face.
- Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free.
- Neck gaiters and open-chain triangle bandanas are not acceptable face coverings.
- Costume masks are also not considered appropriate and are prohibited.
- The use of face coverings is not a substitute for physical distancing.
In general, if you’re outside of your hotel room, you should plan on having a face mask on at all times, unless you are eating or sipping on a drink on-the-go, or you are swimming. The exceptions to this rule are when you are seated at a restaurant or if you take a bite to eat or sip on your drink.
Tips to Make Your Mask More Comfortable
Wearing a face covering isn’t always the most comfortable accessory, with ear chafing, itching and claustrophobia as some of the main complaints. We’ve got good news! There are easy solutions to try that are recommended by medical professionals who wear masks all the time.
- Relieve Ear Pain: Prevent chafing and sores with an “ear saver” that holds the straps of the mask off your ears. These are also helpful to get the right fit without pulling too hard on your ears.
- Mask Odors: Fill a small travel-size bottle of antibacterial laundry sanitizer with you and spray down your masks after every use.
- Breathe Easy: Pop a sugar-free menthol cough drop or a breathe mint whenever you feel suffocated. Not only will it keep your breath fresh, but it also helps you feel a little fresher.
- Avoid Breakouts: Treat your cloth face masks like regular laundry, wash with hot water in the washing machine and tumble dried on high heat or for more delicate hand-sewn masks, wash by hand with soap and water.
- Beat the Heat: Tying your hair back will not only keep you cool but it is also a good way to avoid transferring germs to your mask. Avoid wearing creams, makeup, and products that will melt and make your mask sticky.
- Bring a Spare: Don’t forget to carry a spare mask. There’s nothing that will give you more relief from a damp, sweaty mask than replacing it with a fresh one.
- Don’t Forget to Hydrate: This sounds obvious, but many forget how important it is to get water intake during the day in the CA or FL heat. If you are sweating under a mask, that hydration is even more important. Drink your water and clean, exfoliate, and apply a clean moisturizer to your face every evening.
