In Disney’s animated version of Mulan, Wushu wakes up Mulan in the morning with this porridge on her first day of training to be a soldier. It’s called “Congee” 粥 or 稀飯 and is made with rice cooked with seasonings until it becomes soft and becomes more like a oatmeal or pudding consistency.
Although eaten by all family members, congee is most often served to children and people who are ill or convalescing as it is nutritious and easy to digest.
